There is a deeper problem here. It is important to know that:
Linear measurement is one-dimensional; we are measuring length only. (inch, foot, yard)
Point A to Point B (distance) = Length
Square measurement is two-dimensional; we are measuring length AND width. (square inch, square foot, square yard) Length X Width = Area
Cubic measurement is three-dimensional; we are measuring length, width AND height. (cubic inch, cubic foot, cubic yard) Length X Width X Height (OR Thickness OR Depth) = Volume
