Mobile to approve demolition of civic center; New renderings released

The City of Mobile has offered a sneak peek of what the new arena will look like after it is completed in 2027.

Populous, a global design firm, has been working on the plans for two years. The goal was to design the outside of the building with a Mobile flare, keeping with the French-style façade.

“We have worked diligently with our partners to ensure the planning and design phases of this project stay on time and on budget,” said Mayor Sandy Stimpson.
Next week, the Mobile City Council will vote on an amendment to the design and groundwork of the entire property. The council will also consider a contract with Sabre Demolition Corporation to demolish the existing civic center, theater and expo hall.

“Demolition will be the first step toward building an incredible new facility that will allow future generations of Mobilians to make new, lasting memories with their friends and families,” Stimpson said.

The demo is expected to cost over $4 million.

Groundbreaking of the new facility is tentatively scheduled for February 2025.
