Implosion Takes Place at Sunoco Oil Refinery

The scheduled implosion of a fractionator building at Sunoco’s oil refinery in West Deptford, New Jersey took place on Saturday, January 25th.

The implosion brought down the fractionator, one tower and one chimney.

Built in 1949 and standing around 200 feet, the fractionator was used to convert crude oil into other fuels. Its demolition is part of Sunoco’s efforts to decommission the site as a refinery.

The demolition project began in November 2011 and Is scheduled to be completed in April.
