The City spent approximately $122,600 purchasing, studying and stabilizing 500 and 510 Main. 500 Main was purchased with the intention of becoming the new library. That plan was abandoned because renovation was determined to be cost prohibitive.510 Main was purchased solely to protect 500 Main despite the City already having an engineering report showing serious structural problems. Part of 510 Main subsequently failed.Taxpayers spent approximately $24,400 stabilizing it.The City then sought to dispose of both properties rather than complete the original library project.A developer offered $50,000 for both buildings. And now, four years after taxpayers purchased 510 Main, the City is seeking bids to tear it down.
