Demolition is now underway on the GTE building in downtown Tampa, a structure long known to many residents as the old Wallace Stovall Tampa Tribune building.
Historians say the building dates back to Tampa’s rapid growth during Florida’s land boom of the 1920s and was later remodeled with a modern stucco exterior in the 1970s.
Developers have not publicly revealed plans for the site, but records show the current owners recently sought FAA clearance for a proposed 540-foot tower at the property.
