Sappi Paper Mill Smokestacks Implosion Date Set

Published by on

Sunday April 27, is the tentative date of the implosion of the two remaining smokestacks at the former Sappi paper mill plant in Muskegon, Michigan.

Melching Inc. and their implosion contractor Trinity Industrial Services have recently had an initial meeting with city of Muskegon officials on the smokestack demolition.

Meanwhile the cleanup of debris on the Sappi site continues, the lower portion of the power plant building to the east of the 200-foot section still needs to be demolished.

Doug Melching estimated that the massive paper mill facility will removed and the site cleared by the end of the year. Demolition started in early 2012.

This will be the second implosion at the site, in October 2013 the team brought down a 200-foot tall steel power plant.
