Poultney Mettowee NRCD: Bridge Replacement and Dam/Sill Removal, Sugar House Lane, Off of Lower Dorset Hollow Road, Dorset, VT Sugar House Lane AOP Barrier Removal and Bridge Replacement. The objective of this project is to remove a concrete barrier spanning the Mettowee River to facilitate fish passage and help protect against flood risks. The project is located on a private access road, called Sugar House Lane, which leads from Lower Hollow Road to four private residences. The project includes removing an undersized and failing bridge, which sits on what appears to be an old dam and replacing the bridge with a longer 55’ steel stringer bridge. The project includes installing two stone steps, or grade controls, and rebuilding the streambed to allow regular flow, which will improve sediment and water flow/transport from upstream to downstream, improve flood protection and downstream water quality, and allow for aquatic organism passage from downstream to upstream. The project is within the Mettowee River watershed, which drains to the South Lake of Lake Champlain.
