Construction of the Lake Fairlee Dam Replacement Project TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION: The project involves the demolition of an existing masonry and concrete dam and overflow spillway, and constructing a new cast in place concrete dam and overflow spillway in its place. Elements of the project include: installation of a low level outlet, concrete training walls, and a timber and steel pedestrian walkway across a portion of the spillway. A three season camp rests on a portion of the existing spillway to be demolished. The camp will be lifted in place to accommodate the demolition of the old dam, and the construction of the new dam and an independent foundation system for the camp. Upon completion of the new dam and camp foundation system, the camp will be lowered onto the foundation system. Lake Fairlee will remain at its normal water level throughout the entire construction effort. A temporary cofferdam and bypass system to pass inflows to the lake will be necessary to provide a dry work area while maintaining the lake level. Tree cutting, re-grading of the earthen embankment and reestablishment of turf will also be required as part of this project.
