Hampton Roads Sanitation District: Nansemond Treatment Plan Land Acquisition - Structure Demolition. The project consists of the complete demolition of 16 former military buildings and proper disposal or recycling of all contents including: building demolition; removal and lawful disposal of building contents and demolition debris; removal of 5 known stone/brick lined septic tanks; backfilling of excavated building footprints with clean fill; finish grading to existing grades; and any other tasks required to fully complete the project. Additional items for removal during demolition are: 3 fire hydrants, 30 to 40 cubic yards of general debris, 5 drain inlets, and lead soils associated with 4 of the buildings. The project site is located at HRSD's Nansemond Treatment Plant at 6909 Armstead Road in Suffolk, Virginia. The project consists of a 2,680-foot access road connecting at Armstead Road and extending to the shoreline and the use of Level II Dry Swales for storm water management. The project involves stabilizing approximately 1,000 linear feet of eroding bank with rip rap, as well as stabilizing banks with rip rap near the influent force main (IFM). Improvements at the IFM also include minor repairs to the force main piping and removing the existing bridge and culvert.
