Roscommon Township: Nokomis Challenge Center - Facility Demolition and Restoration. This project consists of the demolition of a former juvenile detention facility. The demolition activities include removing regulated material from the buildings prior to demolition, loading, transport and disposal demolition waste at a licensed landfill. The main building is stick-built with block wall foundations with the exception of the gymnasium, which is steel frame on portland cement concrete footings. The out buildings (garages, sheds, etc.) are wood frame construction. There are several poured concrete structures serving as retaining walls and other concrete slabs to be removed. An on-site borrow location will serve as the source of fill material for foundations, basements, septic tanks and other below grade structures. All work areas will be grubbed two feet below grade, backfilled, and compacted to match the surrounding grade. All finishing activities (seeding, tree planting, topsoil, etc.) will be completed by the MDNR. The contractor shall leave the erosion control structures in place for MDNR to assume maintenance after work is complete. Site utilities, electric power and LP gas, have been dismantled.
