Provide all materials, equipment and labor to perform partial demolition of the 14 Foot Wind Tunnel as outlined below, all in accordance with the subject plans and specifications. This is a complex steel and concrete structure with mechanical and electrical equipment and an adjacent concrete office building. The structure was originally built in 1939 and extensively modified in 1953/54. Bids are to be based on contract documents, the available historical drawings, and site investigations and measurements. The steel structure is coated with a lead based painting system. Asbestos abatement will be required for materials identified on the RFP documents. The structure is located at the Ames Research Center, Mountain View, California. This is Phase 3 of three phase effort and consists of the following elements. Base Bid: Demolition of the test chamber; a four story 70 high steel frame structure with test section of heavy steel construction supported on concrete piers. The building contains hydraulic systems and high voltage powers systems. The building footprint is 75 X 72 and contains many environmental abatement issues. Demolition of office building N218; an attached two story concrete structure of approx.15,000 sq. ft. Demolition of the building (N218E); a one story steel framed structure of approx. 1200sq. ft. The above structures are to be removed to the slabs at grade. Isolation and removal of site utilities as shown on the contract drawings. Option 1: Demolition of asphalt surfaces and concrete slabs and sidewalks on areas as shown on the contract drawings. Option 2: Demolition of slabs on grade and, concrete structures and foundations as shown on the contract drawing. Option 3: Demolition of concrete slabs as shown on the contract drawings. All work in this solicitation entails strict compliance with safety and environmental considerations. A preliminary work plan defining methods and procedures will be required as part of the contract proposal. A detailed work/safety plan addressing all methods of demolition, and construction, shall be submitted and approved by the Government prior to the start of the demolition work. Award will be by Best Value evaluation as defined in the solicitation. Estimated cost is between $1 million and $5 million. Projected construction contract duration is ten months (300 calendar days) if the Base Bid only is awarded and 11 months(330 calendar days) if option items are awarded.
