University of Connecticut: Engineering & Science Building PHASE I. Fusco Corporation is the CM for the project which is expected to bid the first phase immediately following the prequalification period. Phase I Demolition start date April 2014, completion date August 2014; Phase II Construction Start Date January 2015, completion October 2016. Job Description: The University of Connecticut intends to design and construct a new academic research building located in the core campus at Storrs which consists primarily of research laboratories. Mitchell Giurgola Architects has been selected as the design firm. The ESB is a multi-story engineering and interdisciplinary science lab building for bioengineering, computer simulation, chemical engineering and other sciences. The building is a five story building with basement. The Old Central Warehouse is currently located on the site of the future ESB and will need to be demolished in preparation for the commencement of the ESB construction. The Old Central Warehouse is approximately 50,000 GSF and is a reinforced concrete structure with a masonry facade. In addition to the demolition, there will be abatement of asbestos and potentially the removal of other hazardous materials. This Phase also includes a Site and Utility Enabling package consisting of utility relocations, construction of a cast in place retaining wall, asphalt and concrete paving.
