Pier 36 Demolition Project This announcement constitutes a Request for Information from any qualified demolition contractors experienced in marine demolition interested in the project to demolish Pier 36 in San Francisco, CA. This project is planned for pre-solicitation in July 2011. The estimated cost range according to FAR 36.204 is between $5,000,000 and $ 10,000,000. The estimated duration of the project is 126 calendar days (90 working days). Built of reinforced concrete in 1909, for use as a freight ferry facility, Pier 36 was originally 721-feet long and 201-feet wide. Outer wood portions of the Pier have deteriorated and been largely removed. Recently, further deterioration has necessitated closing the pier and securing it with fencing to prevent entry. Deteriorating sections of decking and wooden support pieces continue to rot, break and float out into the Bay, representing a potential hazard to navigation in the adjacent federal channel. Portions of Pier 36 were constructed using creosote-soaked pilings, which contain a class of chemical compounds known to affect the viability of fish spawning. Use of creosote-treated wood is now prohibited in new construction in San Francisco Bay. Removal of Pier 36, including freestanding piles, would eliminate these navigational and environmental hazards. The project area is located within the Embarcadero Waterfront National Register Historic District, which was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. This demolition project includes all structural elements and appurtenant facilities located within the demolition areas. Demolition will include removing the entire Pier 36 and its supporting structures, including: 1) Two sheds of different construction both containing hazardous materials; 2) Demolition of entire concrete deck; 3) Demolition of all supporting structures underneath, including concrete and timber piles and caissons; demolish and clear all structure elements beyond (east of) existing Pier 36 deck, including the collapsed structure debris and remaining timber structure. 4) Demolish entire marginal wharf and its supporting structures within the work limit (from north edge of Pier 38 to south edge of Pier 32), including the art ribbon along and above the sidewalk (only in areas where it is on top of the marginal wharf), and Pier 34 existing caissons. 5) Within work limit as shown, seal off all utilities to seawall. 6) Protect all storm water outfalls within work limit to ensure continuous operation. 7) Prevent any debris to fall onto Bay surface. 8) Stabilize the site condition for safety after demolition project. Bids due 04/25
