Yuma: Fleet Services Maintenance Shop. The work consists of demolition of the existing on-site structures, including asbestos abatement as required, and construction a new Fleet Maintenance Facility. The site is located at the southwest corner of 1st Avenue and 13th Street. Also included is construction of a new sanitary sewer extension on 13th Street. The new facility will provide an energy efficient, safe, and effective workspace for the mechanics, staff and customers of City of Yuma Fleet Maintenance. The proposed building is approximately 40,000 square feet, and is a one-story pre-engineered metal building with masonry and metal panel exterior. The building will have clerestory daylighting using an insulated translucent panel system at the top of the walls. It is also designed to meet the International Energy Conservation Code, and utilizes a high efficiency hybrid cooling system for the large shop areas that require a large amount of fresh air. All parking for both the public and staff is located off 13th street. The areas within the building are an administration area which includes; a public lobby and service counter, an open office area and enclosed office and support spaces for staff, a training room, staff break area, men’s and women’s restrooms, and personal lockers. There is also a service counter as well as a public restroom. Behind a secure entry is the access to the Parts Department and storage, Tire Shop, and the main maintenance shop. The shop is a drive through configuration to conserve energy and provide a conditioned working environment. The site is organized with a public/city customer entrance on the north west side and secure access to the vehicle intake area for city staff only. Once inside the secure gates, vehicles needing work are dropped off and picked up adjacent to the lobby. Around the southwest corner of the building is a set of secure gates that provide access for maintenance staff and environmental services only. The environmental services vehicles are parked on the east side of the site and would leave the northeast gate. Vehicles that are awaiting future repair work are staged in this area. The fleet yard is surrounded by a six foot high masonry screen wall along 13th street and 1st Avenue, and is secured on the south and west sides by chain link fencing. To the east of the parking is a retention area for stormwater. Landscaping will be provided per the City of Yuma zoning requirements along 13th street and 1st avenue. Budget: $7,750,000.
