here's another one
North Beach WWTP Demolition
North Beach MD.
1. $27,659.00
2. $39,500.00
3. $49,787.00 This was our bid
4. $51,456.00
5. $53,243.00
6. $54,632.00
7. $68,000.00
8. $102,000.00

This is the third time this job has been bid in the pass two years. The old numbers were in the $80,000.00 range. I really doubt it will be re-bid again

The owners are the only ones making out in these times. When you see jobs coming in at 30% to 50% and sometimes more below engineer's estimates it's crazy. I hope bonding companies are taking hard looks at the bonds they are writing. I think there could be some companies getting in to trouble out there with their bids. I really think we have not hit bottom yet.

I don't know if they are going to award to low bidder or not. and to tell you the truth I don't care. I told everyone i thought the job would go for $175,000.00. I never expected bids below a $100,000.00. We are only doing 15 Treatment Plants right now if this would have been bid a year ago we would have been in the hunt.

The site walks have been crowded. Work is definetly going for less than cost. We bid a job the other day, that went for the cost of labor. The job was prevailing wage, so I know we were all on the same page. The equipment and disposal was hefty, but it still went for the labor cost. Ridculous.

A few people I heard from said they are actually seeing some improvement, but most are on the west coast, where I think it still has hit us fully yet.

Here in central jersey i dont know of anyone hiring .Very few sets of plans coming in if any. There is federal work and state work out there ,but the demo work is going for less than cost in my opinoin. The phone started ringing for small jobs a little more in the last two weeks but nothing to get excited about.

Are you seeing other companies hiring? are you hiring? What about the projects out there? Are the pre-bids still packed with bidders?
