I had to get one of those because I worked in the marine industry. You should have heard/read the uproar from all the owners of uninspected vessels, sailors and port engineers. You'd have thought they were tattooing the mark on the beast on their and their crews heads! Guess some of them were a little worried about the people they employed..(which in the industry is a joke...only when it is going to cost money are they ever concerned about people they employ.) I think it's great that waterborne transportation and construction outfits will finally have to be accountable for the people they want to hire. Most of the time they find guys to work on the water by way of the "barstool interview". Pretty painless process for anyone that has nothing to be ashamed of in their past though. Sometimes it may cut out an extra step in getting hired on to another job, plus any credential from any government office is usually a good thing to have on a resume.

Demobud,
Make sure you call the center first before you make the second trip. I applied for my TWIC in Nov 07 and it finally came in Mar 08. They may have the bugs worked out now. I was somewhat early in the enrollment process.

And...you are correct, it was totally painfree.

Good advice. There are still bugs; I used the online enrollment and set my time for 11:30 AM and the confirmation set it for 12:30 but it was in the enrollment centers datebook as 11:30. The lady who helped me will email me when the card is actually in her hands.

Nuke, I might have to check into one of those TSA RTA cards. I hate those lines of airport noobs that aren't ready to go through security.

This is a big news for gate valve manufacturing :Crane’s Fluid Handling segment backlog was $286 million at September 30, 2008, a decrease of 4% from $298 million at June 30, 2008, and an increase of 18% over $243 million at December 31, 2007. The third quarter 2008 sales increase of $2.5 million reflects $2.1 million of incremental sales related to the August 2007 acquisition of the Mobile Rugged Business division of Kontron America.

I just applied for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) from the TSA and Homeland Security. All in all it was a pretty painless procedure aside from the 3 hour round trip to the enrollment center (which is repeated when the card is ready for activation in about four weeks).
