we supply uniforms, sweat shirts, t shirts, carhart coveralls, jackets, hardhats all with the company logo. we have 6 guys looking at work and talking to customers and we dress casual. I am amazed at guys who work out in the field that give me a hard time about the uniforms because they want to wear jeans. why would they want to bother with washing and buying clothes. I think they would love not having to worry about it.
Well, since I am a small contractor, I do all of the estimating so I try to present as professional an image as I can. I know there are a lot of "all flash- no substance" guys out there, but I believe it doesn't hurt to make a good first impression.
I have seen some estimators that looked like they crawled out of a dumpster get told that they must conform to a dress code if they get the job, but I haven't seen one get escorted off site yet.
I did show up for a post award meeting once and the architect told me that we didn't look like "wrecking men". I guess he was looking for some grizzled old guy with a mouthful of chew.
What about the office and estimators? I get amazed on going out to some walk-thrus and they way some estimators come dressed, especially in a tenant improvement, where the business is still operating. I've actually seen contractors, both demo and others asked to be removed becuase of the way they were dressed at the walk.
No saggy pants.
OSHA rule on shirt sleeves (no tank or "wifebeaters").
I just got around to getting some samples of logo wear to try out. I'll post a pic when they get here. I don't really mind what is worn as long as you are reasonably presentable. T's with slogans I take on a case by case basis.
