Sorry to hear about the being laid off and all.

On insurance wise, to start I would look at what is required by your state contractors board. Some can be as little as 250K, some are 1 Million. Then you will have an idea of where you need to be.

Well just a little update here, my hunches were correct, I was laid off. So with all kinds of free time I have been putting my nose to the grindstone and making alot more progress with my business planning. I even found an old fella that is willing to back me when I get my ducks in a row. He was a GC for a ton of statewide projects, and is a self-made man. Luckily I just happened to stumble across him. On the other hand, I sure do love my county government employees. They are GREAT! When I ask them a question...They reply with one back! And when I get frustrated they become even more helpful with more questions! It's so charming when they ask me the same question I'm asking them...kinda like owning a parrot!

Needless to say my patience is wearing thin with them. I got a line on a potential insurance agent from my wifes aunt who owns a car insurance office. Asked the guy on the other end of the line what I would be expecting to pay for GL for my business and if he could explain a little bit to me about it. He proceeded to take down my personal info, put me on hold, ask me again for my info, put my on hold to take another call, then asked me if it was for me. I said "no I'm starting a business, a demolition company." "Oh" says he, and puts me on hold. He comes back on to ask me how much I need. I say I don't know. How much can I get I wonder? "Whats the average for a small contractor?" " I'm not sure"..." I know Portage is highest..." "ok buddy thanks" and I hang up.

SHEESH

I'm thinking about starting a dentistry practice instead of a demo business since I just got a lifetime of expierence pulling teeth. :D

Sorry for the earful but this kind of stuf just winds me up.
