Sorry jhall I have been busy beyond belief lately.
I will be some things together for you in the next couple of days.
and here is to the rest of you, help this man out! He is a good guy and is looking for some honest answers. If you don't want to post them, send them to me and I will forward them to him.
Well I think the title says it all. After a few years of working for other people and observing what seems to work and not work in the equipment business I think I am about make a go at it for myself. It's a pretty tough market right now so before I take the leap I want to hear from you guys. If you had to deal with just one shop for all of your attachments, machines, repairs, and rentals for very demolition specific equipment what would you demand? I'm looking to open up a small shop specifically based on the needs of both large and small demo contractors and I really want to get my approach right. What's really important? Do you want to deal with a shop that can come to the job on a Sunday and fix your UP90 when you grenade a rotation unit or is supplying the right parts alone sufficient? Do you want to buy nice rebuilt attachments or do you want new ones? Is a small business with a personal atmosphere important or would you prefer to just get in and get out at the local CAT dealer? What machines and attachments do you seem to always have on rent? Would you prefer to buy from a place that is heavily service based or sales based? How important is a line of interior demo equipment?
Anything you can think of, build me your perfect shop. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.
