The nice thing about it was it mitigates the amount of prep work you have to do to the slab after the tile removal
That is what I was thinking about how much prep afterwards. Thanks for the info.
I wonder if they would make something for smaller areas? Sea-Tac Aiport is going through major remodels and additions. In some of the areas where they are putting down new tile file they are required to "grind" the terrazzo down where it meets the escalators and elevators. The only downside is that you have to assume that there is asbestoes underneath the terrazzo throughout the whole airport.
I am a partner in a project downtown where we are converting an old building into condos. All the floors were covered in terrazzo over concrete. The flooring sub used a machine called a Schibeci. It mounts on a skid steer and demolishes about 2,000 +/- SF per hour. It is also self levelling so when you finish the floor is pretty level.
Here is the website.
What is the best way to remove terrazzo from a concrete slab, I am looking at a project to remove approximately 18,000 sf. The contractor is going to replace it with ceramic tile and figures he will have to float some of the floor.
We thought about saw-cutting it in strips and than chipping it out. Any other suggestions?
