That would have been my guess. It just seems to me that so many things could have been disastrous if just the slightest thing went wrong. Like you said just the ball getting caught-up

Brave pilot i have to admit! if the ball would be caught in the debris...
But i think this is a othervise brilliant idea! maybe they didn't have the space or the ground was to weak to carry a crane! hard to say from the video if they have some underground structures that does not alow a crane.

but the pilot really has something to brag about :D
but free falling this ball would be a disaster:D
