A couple of years ago I demoed an old Tru Value hardware building. I found an unopened box sitting on a window sill that had three of those really nice brass and mahogany 48" Johnson levels. I kept on and gave my foremen the other two. They had been boarded in the window sill fo about ten years. I still use mine almost every day!

Good of you to return them to the owner. That was nice of you. The goodness should come back to you.

Were the silver dollars the Morgan type or peace design (eagle or profile of head)? In any event, they are probably worth at least $10 a piece--more for rare dates.

Did you find anything else of interest in that attic?

Nope nothing more of interest. But then again you never know with what people buy now-a-days.

They were all Morgan Dollars with Miss Liberty.

I hope the goodness comes back. :D

I was a pre-demolition survey for a client yesterday and found a case fll of silver dollars in the attic. Some dating back to the 20's and 30's there was about 70-80 of them. Like a good boy I returned them to the owner. I am sure in the condition that they were in, it would be paying my bill.

These had come in on a train and had been incorrectly chained. I gues as the train moved, the cars got jolted way past tolerances so the dealer had to scrap em because they were uninsurable. They wouldn't even let us drive them on the yard.

That must have been around 84-85? I remember those. I had a friend whose dad owned a Ford Dealership and as soon as those came in he was driving one. I remember how hot they were that they were only going to produce like 5000 or something like that.

He took me for a ride and then let me drive it, man oh man I remebr the power it had. It was unreal.

Yeah, I missed the show on that one, but I did get to watch four Mustang SVO's that were damaged in transit (frame damage) shredded at the behest of one of the local Ford dealers. I wanted to cry.

Now that would have been "fun" to watch.

When I was growing up, my Dad and grandfather ran a scrap yard with an auto shredder. We would shred thing for the police impound like guns and cars. One afternoon we shredded a car that had been used in a bank holdup where some of the money was never found. this was before you had to remove the gas tanks prior to shredding and occaisionally you would get a fireball from gas left in the tank. This happened to the getaway car and after the fireball, flaming money rained down on the yard. It was chaos for about 20 minutes until the police officers made it clear that no one could keep the cash.:)

That's cool tuney443. Like we always say, they sure don't make things like they used too.

2 months ago on an old 70 year old garage demo I salvaged an old '57 Bolens Ride-a matic tractor.Threw it in the back of my dump truck, rained over the weekend, remembered Mon. morning I had that thing back there, figured it might be a good idea to take it out before I loaded my topsoil.Later,I just got the itch to work on it-after only 2 hours of cleaning, lubing, etc. I got that beast running--chain drive--an adjustable system where you change sprocket size and location to change from hi to lo-unbelievable--it must have been in there for at least 30 years from the dust on it.

I know a guy that found $40,000 in an old bank building. There was a false ceiling in one of the money counting rooms. I guess a bank employee stashed it there to get it at a later date.

James, apparently the moving company hired to transfer all of the Braves stored paper work and other things did a sloppy job. We found a lot of unshredded docs including Abox of cancelled checks that Hank Aarron had written. In the interest of his security we shredded all of it, but we did find pins, stickers, hats and other souvenirs. I got a neat set of coasters from the Stadium Club for my bar.:)

demobud,

What's the chance of finding that? I am sure there was a ton of other stuff behind there also, in the ways of dust, papers, and other crap.

neyc,

Now that is something I wouldn't expect to find.

Any others?

We found Francisco Cabrera's World Series ring during the Atlanta Fulton County Stadium demo. It was behind a locker row in the players locker room. Apparently he had lost it and another had been made for him.

A canister of tear gas that everyone swore was removed form the building prior to our work.

I found a Ty Cobb baseball card once. I am getting to begin work on a distillery. The executive offices all have the really ornate frosted doors. They will replace my dining room doors. :) I have got a bunch of really old bottle in their too and a couple hundred boxes of labels.

I found some of the original plans of an old building that we were tearing down. We returned it to the owners of the new building and they actually framed them and keep them hung up in their offices.

I have also done a ton of "evicts" clean outs and have found and kept several items, from computers to furniture. We sold most of it.
