Tim was heading up Hudgins and then started a group called AMC Demolition and that's the last I knew, like you said... poof! When I worked with Steve P. I was actually an employee of DHGriffin and was on loan to Steve for about two and a half years and then I was posted to the Atlanta division for about five years. I have my own sole proprietorship now, LDC Contracting. I do some demo some construction and resource recovery. I am also an independent rep for General Kinematics/ Sherbrooke OEM and am trying to open the market here in alabama and Georgia for various types of recycling systems. I miss blasting though, I have to say of the past 20 years my time with Steve was probably the most fun I've had in demolition.
No that wasn't us in the steeple, but I do remember that delay! I was in the office building directly behind the church and had a clear view of the shot with the Tutwiler to our left and Energen to the right. It was a great frame for the shot (my camera died so I didn't get photos).
Man HT could talk the legs of a donkey and then convince it to go for a walk. I remember Tim, we were mostly competing in the Atlanta area so i only saw him at prebids.
We had gotten the RFQ from Levy Wrecking at literally the last minute so I had very little time to investigate the building but I do remeber the gen set. I would have thought Hudgins would have that out for sure.
Demobud,
I remember we had to hold the shot up because there were people in the steeple of a church in the exclusion zone...was that you?
We worked 28 hrs. straight because of certain time restrictions with work hours. I worked with Tim barker and Mr. hudgins. It took longer to listen to HT stories than it took to shoot and prep the building!
The basement had 8" of water in it too! My biggest regret is not getting the beautiful generator system out of the basement.
I remember Harold, one of my ex-coworkers at DH Griffin worked for Hudgins for many years. I wasn't able to make it to Harold's funeral though, I'll always regret that.
I watched that shot in Bham. That was the old Essex House right across the street from the Tutwiler Hotel. I was working with Steve Pettigrew at the time and we had bid on that job with Levy Wrecking from out of Nashville. I watched the shot from a lawyer friends office. We had a great view from above the top of the episcopal church. It was nicely done shot. I do remember you had to cover the new facade of the Library; man that must have been a cause for concern!
Hello everyone- This forum sounds like a great idea to exchange information about different methods or ideas . I am a small excavation and demolition contractor in Maine . A majority of our demo jobs are houses, barns, mobile homes, and concrete removal. Heres a pic of a house we tore down last winter all by hand becuase the general contractor wanted to save the junk foundation . Only when it was all down did he decide for us to take it out and install a new one.
