Wrecking Corporation of America, which has provided demolition services to major industrial, commercial, and government clients in the Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland metropolitan areas for more than 30 years, has been awarded a contract for hazmat removal and demolition of two 12-story buildings on one of the busiest corners in Washington, DC.
The buildings are located at the high-traffic Connecticut Ave. and K Street intersection, and Wrecking Corp will begin abatement and demolition this month. The general contractor for the project is Bethesda-based Clark Construction Group LLC.
"We have extensive experience in demolition in cramped urban settings, which requires specialized knowledge and expertise in public safety when working close to adjacent properties," said Terry Anderson, Wrecking Corp executive VP. "In the case of 1000 Connecticut, we are working at an intersection where there is especially heavy foot and vehicle traffic, and the challenge is to get the building down safely and with minimal disruption to the activities of the area."
The project involves razing 400,000 square feet of concrete structure to sidewalk elevation and is expected to be completed in 2008. Prior to the actual demolition, there is a substantial amount of asbestos removal to be conducted.
