Workers begin demolition of smokestack
The 140-foot smokestack at the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Children's School in Normal will soon be gone.
Workers began demolition yesterday on the brick smokestack, which is more than 70 years old.
Stark Excavating spokesman Ross Griffin says the entire project will take about two months to complete.
Stark is also closing the underground steam tunnels that once took heat to all campus buildings.
