A 24-year-old construction worker who fell 12 feet from a bucket at the old City Hall building suffered a serious head injury, said Assistant Chief Tim Hautamaki of Lauderhill, FL Fire-Rescue.

The worker, who has not been identified, was in a raised bucket when he fell about 1:15 p.m. at 2000 NW 55th Ave, Hautamaki said. Paramedics rushed him to Broward General Medical Center in serious condition.

A construction crew has been gutting the old City Hall for weeks in preparation for its demolition Thursday. Hurricane Wilma damaged the building almost two years ago, forcing the city to move its offices to the Corporate Park at Inverrary, 3800 Inverrary Blvd.

New residences are to be built on the old City Hall site after the building is flattened.

The worker's fall is under investigation.
