A construction worker died in a downtown building Monday after part of a roof collapsed on him during renovation work.

The third floor of the building collapsed into the second floor just after 1 p.m., killing a 54-year-old man, police told QMI Agency.

Firemen were seen in the rubble of the building trying to remove wood debris. The building is located on the eastern edge of downtown.

"People who were there when it collapsed said, 'We only had a second to get out of there. It collapsed super fast. We had no choice but to flee.’”

Other construction workers, including the son of the deceased, suffered minor injuries.
