The owner of an asbestos abatement company, Dale Knutson, was sentenced in Washington County Circuit Court to 75 days in the Washington County jail.
Knutson, an asbestos abatement contractor who owns CAAP Inc.,a hazardous waste removal company based in Menomonee Falls, was charged by Wisconsin State Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen for violating state hazardous waste storage laws, state hazardous waste dumping regulations, and obstruction of justice for misleading law enforcement officers in a 2005 environmental investigation.
Washington County Circuit Judge David Resheske also ordered Knutson of Brookfield to perform 100 hours of community service and 3 years probation plus his company, CAAP, will pay $30,000 in hazardous waste law violations which took place between October 2004 thru October 2005. As reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, in 2004, Milwaukee Water Works hired Knutson and his company CAAP to remove and dispose of numerous drums of waste chemicals that included phosphoric acid. Knutson removed and transported 8 barrels of waste from the Linnwood water treatment plant on Lake Michigan. According to government lawyers, environmental investigators, and court documents, Knutson illegally dumped the toxic hazardous chemicals on the ground at his property. Investigating law enforcement officers found drums in a van on the rear of his property on County Highway K containing the hazardous chemicals.
