A water tower in Springfield, S.C. that was being dismantled has toppled over and forced people to run for their lives.
A demolition company was using two cranes to lower the tank when the boom on one broke Friday night.
One crane operator suffered minor injuries when the nearly 80-year-old tank with its distinctive green frog logo fell.
The 150-foot tall tank tower had not been used for several years. It smashed a mobile home used by the fire department as well as a pickup truck and a back hoe owned by the town.
Ernest Ray Williams is the town's water and sewer maintenance operation and was helping dismantle the tower.
He says the second crane operator prevented more serious injuries or damage as he swung the crane away from Town Hall, a building where water equipment is stored and an auto parts store.
The state Department of Health and Environmental Control said the old water tower was too unstable and had to be removed
