The owner of Parkland Metals, located in Spanaway, Wash., was arrested late last week for possession and trafficking in stolen goods.
The business owner, Soo Lee of Spanaway, had been accused of buying stolen items from his customers. According to the Washington State Police, the items included Department of Transportation junction boxes, street light electrical covers and copper wire. Trooper Brandy Kessler, a spokeswoman for the Washington State Police, said that Lee has no prior arrests for stolen goods, which means that any jail time will likely be less than 90 days, although a fine could be as much as $200,000.
According to an announcement by the police, Washington State Patrol detectives have had an ongoing investigation of this business for the past year and had taken items belonging to the Department of Transportation to the business owner to sell. The owner accepted and bought the items from the detectives. It has been estimated that the Department of Transportation is at a total loss of approximately $200,000 worth of time and material to replace what has already been damaged and stolen.
While Lee was arrested on Aug. 30. Parkland continues to operate.
