The City of Hastings, NE is one step closer to cleaning up the site of a downtown fire. The Uerling Furniture building burned down in 2006.
Nobody has been able to find the owners.
The case went to trial Monday.
The court ruled the city can now hire a contractor to finish demolition of the site and fill it in at no cost to the city of Hastings.
"Then we will execute on the real estate to have it sold at a sheriff's auction to the highest bidder. The money from that sale will then be applied to the demolition and the filling in," said Hastings City Attorney Bob Sullivan.
Demolition could cost close to $60,000.
That could take place in the next couple months.
