Local contractors bid the work - 1 of the three contractors was local. But none of us were using the 25% goal for community inclusion. Our company was using 17.89 % local trucking -$79,802 worth. So the guys that can't bid because they can't get a 100% bid bond and payment & performance bond won't bid again. Who is making out are the 5 architectural firms that will re-create all these specs and drawings.

Toledo Ohio's unemployment rate is 12.5% the city is on tough times. Is it so bad that they want local companies to do the work. We are traveling more and more for work and our crews travel when you start pulling millions out of a local economy it does have a impact in todays world. I feel this will become the norm and I am seeing it more and more.

I see your point why change the playing field in the middle of the game. We are in trying times and I feel these people are trying to do the best thing for their city that's all.

You missed the point, I do would just like to bid building demo, but these are the specifics below.

The problem is that our company was one of the ones that won a large portion of the job by going thru and doing a detailed estimate, providing all the proper paperwork, the bonds, the insurance, the proper EDGE solicitations in OH and then after two months of submittals and two trips to Toledo from NY the school board rejects the bids becuase not enough "community inclusion".

They passed out a list of businesses at the pre-bid that were outside the scope of what was needed on this project but we solicited others anyway. We were giving all the trucking to an EDGE certified business over $80000 in work or 19% of my contract, but the board wanted a whole seperate 25% for this new "community inclusion". So basically they were telling us to give almost 50% of the contract away. It wasn't possible, the abatement was already being done. They will cost the taxpayers another $100000 in Architects fees alone to re-do the documents, etc.

It doesnt sound that bad to me. I hate having to put a number on cleaning out buildings for the demo work. I have used many subs for doing the site demo. and if there is any landscaping to be done i sub that out also. just give me a nice cleaned out building to demo and i am as happy as a pig in s**t

It is a total joke. If they could bid the project under the current conditions they would have.

The Toledo, OH Board of Education members rejected demolition contracts for five schools so the projects can be broken down into multiple bid packages, allowing for greater participation of local contractors.

The move is expected to delay the completion of the projects.
