Talk about a fast schedule.

Stanford's storied football stadium, which hosted such legends as John Elway and Bill Walsh, will be history soon as construction begins on a more modern facility.

Demolition of the 84-year-old Stanford Stadium is scheduled to Stanford stadium started shortly after a home game on Saturday against Notre Dame.

After the final whistle blows, a small bulldozer will wheel in and remove a ceremonial chunk of the field, signaling the start of a speedy two-week demolition schedule. Fans will be allowed onto the field to touch the hallowed gridiron and take pieces of the field as souvenirs.

Stanford plans to have the new $90 million stadium ready in time for opening day next September.
