[FONT=Verdana]It's out with the old and in with the new at the Chesterfield County Jail. SB Cox of Richmond, VA started the demolition project Yesterday morning.[/FONT]

[FONT=Verdana]Sheriff Clarence Williams was at the controls as the heavy equipment brought down the first bricks and shingles. [/FONT]

[FONT=Verdana]"I'm sure some eyes are looking down on us today and thinking about what we're going and seeing the future coming to Chesterfield County," Williams said.[/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana][/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana]Building the new Chesterfield County Jail, then tearing down the old one next door has a price tag of nearly 29-million dollars. Once all of the debris is removed, the area will be used as a parking lot.[/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana][/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana]Major Donald White tells us the new facility allows recreation for inmates both indoors and out, private cells, and a medical clinic. [/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana][/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana]"We don't have to take them out of the housing area. That's one of the good things about this facility. We can actually take the service to them. [/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana][/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana]The less you move an inmate, the more secure the public is," White explained.[/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana][/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana]The new Chesterfield County Jail took three years to build and is three times as large as the old one.
