Sault College in Marie, ON, Canada has embarked on the biggest capital campaign in its 44-year history, proposing a $45 million rebuilding project that will involve demolition of all but three of its 11 existing wings.
Conceptual plans presented to City Council tonight by Sault College President Ron Common show only the E, B and L wings surviving, with the J, G, H, C D, K, F buildings and most of the A wing slated for the wrecking ball.
The college's board wants to erect a new curved structure similar to the one shown.
The plans show the student residence and The Outback retained.
The new Sault College would be built to accommodate 2,500 students, compared to 1,850 at present.
More than 200,000 square feet of existing buildings would be demolished, and 151,344 square feet of new construction added, bringing the total size of the new college to 350,000 square feet.
City Council expressed its support for the massive plan.
