A loud crash rang out from the site of the former UCAR plant, at about 12:30 p.m.

Firefighters and police were dispatched to the area amid reports of a possible explosion at Lakeside Steel next-door.

Instead, the incident proved to be a planned demolition of a 1,775-square-metre (19,100-square-foot) tower at the plant.
