That's funny. They just finished demo'ing the old Pabst brewery in Newark. Whole site to be redeveloped. It was a real rat trap. Vacant for years.

They did save the giant Pabst bottle that was on top of it--a local landmark. Will be placed on top of whatever is built there in its place.

Who remembers PBR?

Demolition crews are going to work on the former Pabst Brewery site.

Twenty-six buildings on the 21-acre site will be turned into a mix of residential and commercial use.

The old brewery is on the north side of downtown Milwaukee by Ninth Street and Juneau Avenue.

Two of the buildings have already been sold.

One of the buildings, the brewery's old keg house, will be converted into apartments where tenants can both live and work.

"In a live-work development, both the units and the amenities are designed to allow someone to do business from the residence and from the community. The amenities will include business center, media production area, a number of conference rooms," said Tom Capp of Gorman & Co.

The 100-unit building is slated to open in the summer or fall of 2008.

No other specific plans for the project are in place yet.

The Pabst Brewery was founded back in 1844, and at one time, was the largest brewery in the United States.
