THE CLOCK is ticking for Methil power station as investigations continue into the best way to demolish the eyesore.

Scottish Power confirmed last year that the mothballed facility was worthless to them and was no longer even considered in the company's back-up strategy.

Workmen have intermittently visited the prominent site to assess the state of the building and surrounding land with a view to possibly knocking down the derelict structure.
And, speaking this week, a spokeswoman for Scottish Power confirmed investigations were still ongoing.

"This is a slow process," she explained.

With the possibility of asbestos in the station, construction materials from the 40-year-old building are being carefully examined to make sure public health would not be threatened by demolition.
Once these investigations have been completed, Scottish Power will meet with Fife Council and Forth Ports Plc
