There is a video the news is showing that has a door swinging closed just after the det cord goes off. Anything could have swung the door closed at that point. I would hope they had more evidence than that before they stopped the project. But you are right about stopping some determined person intent on doing something extremely stupid
Here is Cherry's Statement:
Cherry Demolition was informed today by the Houston Police Department that a possibility exists that a person was inside the Crowne Plaza Hotel at the time of implosion. A home video was provided to HPD leading them to consider that possibility.
“We are working diligently with the officers of the police department,” stated Leonard Cherry, an owner of Cherry Demolition. “We certainly hope that this is not true, but are cooperating in any way that we can.”
“We would ask that anyone having further information please contact the Houston Police Department,” added Mr. Cherry.
Cherry Demolition is a family owned and operated demolition business based in Houston, Texas.
Houston police are investigating the possibility that someone may have been inside the Crowne Plaza Hotel when it was imploded last weekend.
"We got a lead that someone might have sneaked into the building before the implosion and might have been there when it imploded," said John Cannon, spokesman for the Houston Police Department. "It's too early to tell if that's true."
Cannon said police investigators are expected to search the implosion site today. They searched the rubble Wednesday and a body was not found, he added.
Officials with the demolition firm, Cherry Demolition, said in a statement that the police told them Wednesday about the possibility that someone could have been in the building when it was toppled.
"We are working diligently with the officers of the police department," stated Leonard Cherry, an owner of Cherry Demolition. "We certainly hope that this is not true, but are cooperating in any way that we can."
Company officials said the police told them investigators saw a video that led them to investigate the possibility of a person being in the building.
Cannon said he was uncertain what tip led police to investigate the implosion site, but that police have a video of the implosion which investigators are viewing.
