The developer is clearly looking for the media circus. That's the only reason for doing this on New Years Eve & the only reason for imploding the building. The only thing that will make this interesting at all will be the pyrotechnics. The Spectrum could be easily taken down by regular demolition methods, but that wouldn't create the media circus.

Why would Brandenberg implode it? They could bring it down far more easier and cheaper mechanically.

It is not the demolition contractors who wins the bid decison to implode it. Comcast who owns it, whats it to go out in a bang and put a show on for philadelphia. Or that what I heard, I could be wrong.

IT is ashame seeing the spectrum go down. I always rember seeing the flyers at the wachovia center. I heard there gonna implode it on new years eve of 2009. This just a guess but I think brandenburg is gonna win the bid to bring it down.
