Nice implosion job? Looks can be deceiving. After years of being exposed to the salty, sea air, this building was "funky." That coupled with two failed columns on the ground floor, held up that one bay. I'm not making any excuses, just stating what really happened.
Our client, Vaccaro Enterprises, had the structure completely flat within no time at all.

The official version is that the structure was too "light". Scott McClelland could have a new home with these guys.

According to the New York Times a large portion of the building was left standing and it was described by one of the workers "as being a bigger mess now than when they started....." You have to be registered to access the site but I will see if I can figure out a way to post the article. I am not that computer literate so bear with me.

Some facts and figures about plans for the implosion:
-3 million: pounds per square inch of pressure exerted by plastic explosives.
-8,000: tons of steel contained in structure.
-1,000: safety perimeter, in feet, to be cordoned off to protect spectators.
-130: locations within the 12-story steel skeleton where explosives will be placed.
-91: pounds of explosives
