Nice implosion job? Looks can be deceiving. After years of being exposed to the salty, sea air, this building was "funky." That coupled with two failed columns on the ground floor, held up that one bay. I'm not making any excuses, just stating what really happened.

Our client, Vaccaro Enterprises, had the structure completely flat within no time at all.

The official version is that the structure was too "light". Scott McClelland could have a new home with these guys.

Looks to me like rear column row 6 charges fired but didn't cut or the kicker didn't fire. Surprised RDZ any input? I'd have to say it looks much better after than before, and the town got the media attention it was after. :)

According to the New York Times a large portion of the building was left standing and it was described by one of the workers "as being a bigger mess now than when they started....." You have to be registered to access the site but I will see if I can figure out a way to post the article. I am not that computer literate so bear with me.

Implosion is Saturday

Some facts and figures about plans for the implosion:

-3 million: pounds per square inch of pressure exerted by plastic explosives.

-8,000: tons of steel contained in structure.

-1,000: safety perimeter, in feet, to be cordoned off to protect spectators.

-130: locations within the 12-story steel skeleton where explosives will be placed.

-91: pounds of explosives

Yes.

Other than a few pre-cast concrete panels on the outside, the structure is nothing but steel, they only poured concrete on the two lower floors. Everything above the second level is rotted out metal decking.

It would be nice to photograph. You could do all kinds of fun things with a high speed camera. Because there are no walls you will be able to see each charge go off.

It's ready to rip. Should come down nice and clean. Do you know who's doing the job?

They are doing a lot of demo in Asbury Park. Seems like it's coming back. The Boss would be proud.

This looks like a nice job. Very little preparation and very little dust.
