Demolition follows LEED guidelines, 95 percent of materials to be recycled.

HOUSTON - NCM (http://www.ncmgroup.com), the nation's premier demolition and remediation company, successfully completed an explosives demolition yesterday on the Lone Star College-University Park campus (LSC).
Following three months of extensive preparations that involved removing most of the buildings' interiors, plus further work to design and engineer the implosion, the explosives brought down two buildings in less than 15 seconds. NCM will spend the next four to six weeks finalizing the site prep as the college plans to return the property to usable green space.

Video footage of the implosion is available for viewing online at NCMGroup's Channel - YouTube and high resolution images are available for download at PRESS NCM Implosion LSC Houston - Folder Shared from Box.net.

"The buildings came down exactly as we had planned - safely and efficiently
- as we watched from a nearby building and celebrated the hard work done by the crews," said Don McGlamery, Senior Vice President, NCM Houston. "We know that Lone Star is excited to return the site to a green space, so we're already starting to sort, remove and recycle the debris right away."

The demolition project is following the United States Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) guidelines.
Ninety-five percent of the building material, by weight, is on track to be recycled and diverted from landfill. This includes approximately 765 tons of scrap metal and 30,000 tons of concrete and asphalt paving.

NCM and its partners carefully managed the demolition to minimize the impact to the community and its residents. Dust and debris were kept to a minimum by removing the drywall, ceiling tiles and other dust-causing materials prior to implosion.

The eight-story buildings contained 400,000 square feet and stood more than 120 feet tall. Both were built in the late 1980's from reinforced concrete with exterior aluminum window envelopes.

NCM has provided demolition services to the greater Houston area for almost 20 years and emphasizes safety, cost-effectiveness, and regulatory compliance. While NCM has expertise in all areas of demolition, explosive demolition is an alternative to more traditional methods that can take weeks or months to complete. Dust and noise are always minimized, and interior finishes, trims and non-structural elements are often removed before demolition to maximize diverting waste from landfill.
