Structures on the former Campbell Soup Co. property haven’t been razed yet, but their demolition became more imminent thanks to action taken Monday night by the Worthington City Council.
Council members voted 4-1 to approve specifications for work needed to demolish the primary building and some of the other structures on the Campbell site, with a total estimated cost of demolition at $867,400, including a professional services total of an amount not to exceed $105,980. Peer Engineering of Eden Prairie completed the specifications and estimates.
Most of the structures currently leased by Smith Trucking are not included in the demolition plans. The warehouse (commonly known as the “blue building”), truck shelter, maintenance garage and west treatment building — all located along Second Avenue — are slated to stay. The truck shelter along the railroad and the steel wastewater storage tank along Second Avenue are among the structures included in the demolition.
