Having worked for LIRO before - I feel sorry for anyone that gets this project, because they make you go above and beyond what is in that spec book, For example if it says secured site - count of 24 hr security, if they spec a computer for the job trailer - it better meet everything from memory to MHz or its rejected + they love to hold onto your money its 90 days at best to get paid.

Yeah - who ever gets this job is in for a real ass ache - Unions, Liro, Empire State Development Paper work & payment terms (real picnic).

I heard that O'Connell Electric was around $100,000 per building disconnect and re-wire for the abatement and interior demo.

North - there is no correct answer. I would say Testa & Brandenburg have the most equipment, Brandenburg is the biggest (dollars per year) - as far as the wisest - I am sure each one would feel they are.

I have bid against these companies for the last 13 years and I can tell you the following:

1.Brandenburg - is typically way to high
2.Testa - usually only bids steel work
3.Sabre - is very competent and usually puts in quality #'s
4.Ontario Speciality -is very competent and usually puts in quality #'s
5.Cambria - is very competent and usually puts in quality #'s
6.Ritter & Paratore - not a great demolition bidder but very good with site work bids
7.Bianchi - Has fallen off since 2006 - #'s are inconsistent
8.Manafort -is very competent and usually puts in quality #'s
9.NASDI - is very competent and usually puts in quality #'s
10.CCI - ?????
11.Wrecking Corp of USA - DC company is quality but I know little besides to say they took a job in the southern tier where they left 45% on table.
12.Dore & Assc - Michagan - Haven't seen a competitive bid in 5 years (way hi or lo)
13.Independence Wrecking - is very competent and usually puts in quality #'s14.Titan Wrecking - Buffalo -usually hi or lo
15.LVI - Rochester - mainly asbestos
16.Metro Environmental - mainly asbestos
17.Custom Topsoil - recently bid buffalo laundry - was way off
18.Homrich - Michagan -is very competent and usually puts in quality #'s
19.Demrex - Philadelphia -never have seen them
20.Zoladz construction - clueless
21.Nuprecon - bid against them in WA & OR (both jobs they won)
22.Empire Wrecking - Webster NY (see Zoladz comments)
23.Frederico - Rochester, NY - very small usually bids houses and small commer
24.NYTECH - rochester-???
25.Christa - Rochester (CM & GC) -no good experiences when working for them
26.Terrasan - (NYC) - usually very high
27.CST Environmental -California -usually only see them on industrial sites
28.Breeze National - NYC -only bid shea against them - they got it
29.Dakota Environmental - Syracuse, NY -????
30.Tenney Rigging - Buffalo (Scary based on some bid results I've seen)
31.Sessler Wrecking - Waterloo, NY -Specializes in bridges but can do both
32.AJ Montclair - Utica, NY - focuses on houses
33.Empire Dismantlement - crazy low or high
34.LeChase Construction - Why are they bidding this?
35.Jackson Demolition - Schenectady, NY - nice equipment but bad #'s

Opinions are like assholes everyone has one, in this case it was 35.

They didn't go to walk-thru - it was mandatory. No ERSI but they are more asbestos than demoltion.

Demolition Plans & Specs out on street for Midtown Plaza - The engineers estimate is $14.5 million. Along with substantial demolition there is the construction of new tunnels, new electrical ductbanks, etc.

I have heard that the cost of utility disconnects and re-connects for the abatement was $100,000 per building for 13 buildings.

List of Bidders:
1.) CCI - North Carolina
2.) Wrecking Corp USA - Southern NY - P.M Schwab (infamous last name)
3.) Dore & Assc - Michagan
4.) Independence Wrecking - OH
5.) Sabre - Syracuse, NY
6.) Ontario Specialty Contracting - Buffalo
7.) Titan Wrecking - Buffalo
8.) LVI - Rochester
9.) Metro Environmental
10.) Laborers - Local 435
11.) Operators - Local -832
12.) Custom Topsoil
13.) Homrich - Michagan
14.) Bianchi Industrial Services - Syracuse (so much for any rumors)
15.) Demrex - Philadelphia (should be interesting based on history w/unions in Philly if he should end up with it).
16.) Zoladz construction - Paul Defranks (old cleveland wrecking office buffalo)
17.) Nuprecon - with a Maine address????
18.) Empire Wrecking - Webster NY
19.) Frederico - Rochester, NY
20.) Ritter & Paratore Contracting - Utica, NY
21.) NYTECH - rochester
22.) O'Connell Electric - Rochester (better pay attention to his #)
23.) Testa - MA
24.) Christa - Rochester (CM & GC)
25.) Terrasan - Benedict Colombo (NYC)
26.) Morgan/Christa - WBE joint venture w.christa (Rochester)
27.) Oddu Const - MBE rochester
28.) CST Environmental -California
29.) Breeze National - NYC (contractor that demolished Shea Stadium)
30.) Dakota Environmental - Syracuse, NY
31.) Maple Grove Enterprize - Rochester, NY - MBE
32.) Tenney Rigging - Buffalo (Scary based on some bid results I've seen)
33.) Cambria - Lockport, NY (winner of phase 1 - $34 million abatement)
34.) Sessler Wrecking - Waterloo, NY -Specializes in bridges
35.) AJ Montclair - Utica, NY
36.) Vasile Construction - Rochester, MBE
37.) Empire Dismantlement - Sam DeFranks (Another piece of Cleveland Wrecking from Buffalo)
38.) Clark Rigging - Rochester, NY
39.) LeChase Construction - Rochester, NY (CM & GC)
40.) Jackson Demolition - Schenectady, NY
41.) LaBella Asso - Rochester, NY (Air consultant)
42.) Manafort brothers - CT
43.) NASDI -Waltham MA
44.) Brandenburg - Bethlehem PA
45.) CP Ward - Rochester (GC & CM)
46.) ECG - Rochester, NY

Of these contractors the questions should be: 1.) Who is Union, 2.) Who has the capability, 3.) Who has that Bonding Capability - these are the players:

Not in any particular order.
1.) Sabre (did Colts Stadium, union, surely can get a bond - but is all the earthwork - tunneling, electric their cup of tea)
2.) Dore & Associates (bids anything and everything - throws numbers like darts - if he's with 25% he'll attempt to take it)
3.) Ontario Specialty (By giving away big % of company don't know if they could get a bond, but certainly capable, also may be issue with Unions)
4.) Titan Wrecking - Ditto to # 2 (numbers are all over the place)
5.) Homrich - Big, Capable and Union (but its not all wrecking)
6.) Bianchi - My guess is they won't bid because of the tunnels, etc -no one capable of pricing that for them.
7.) Nuprecon - Big time west coast - but can they get it together for this project?
8.) Ritter & Paratore - Not Union - could do earthwork
9.)Testa - probably not enough steel to interest Steve
10.) Christa - they attended for a reason (probably team with demo guy that good never get a bond that big)
11.) Terrasan -See 2 & 4
12.) Breeze -did shea, are union, but doesn't know upstate market
13.) Tenny Rigging - See 2, 4, & 11
14.) Cambria - bonded $34 million on phase 1, are union, did stoney pt power plant - certainly has big iron - major contender
15.) Sessler - union, big enough, in their back yard - expect a good #
16.) LeChase - See #10
17.)Jackson Demolition - couldn't get a bond that big
18.) Manafort Brothers - another major player
19.) Brandenburg - as big as they get, union, but usually quite high on public work.
20.) NASDI - union, big, and has done a project in Syracuse (major contender);

Looks like out of the 20 maybe 7-10 will decide to play: Predictions
Cambria, NASDI, Sessler, Homrich, OSC, Sabre, Bianchi, Manafort, Brandenburg, Ritter & Paratore.
