The Midland, MI City Council has given the O-K to accepting bids for demolishing the old Civic Arena after a proposal to sell it failed.
Fifty-four percent of voters approved selling the arena on November seventh, short of the 60 percent needed to pass. The facility and part of the city's Central Park were being eyed by developers for senior housing.
Officials estimate it could cost half a million dollars to tear down the arena. Council members must still approve its demolition.
The new, 10-million-dollar Civic Arena opened in 2005.
