MassDevelopment said Wednesday that eight redevelopment projects in the state will split $1 million in one-time grants for asbestos and lead paint remediation work above ground.
Last year, as part of the $30 million Brownfields Redevelopment Fund (BRF) recapitalization, the legislature authorized MassDev to create a pilot program to determine the need, cost and effectiveness of providing funds for above ground removal of asbestos and lead paint. Currently, the remediation of asbestos and lead paint contamination in buildings does not qualify for financing through the BRF. Applicants were eligible for up to $350,000 per project.
Grant recipients are:
-Blessed Sacrament Campus in Boston, which received $86,000
-H.M. Francis Commercial Bank Building in Fitchburg, which received $130,000
-Hayes Building in Haverhill, which received $130,000
-211A - 219 Farnham Street in Lawrence, which received $14,000
-Clark Biscuit Apartments in North Adams, which received $120,000
-West Putnam Hall in Orange, which received $50,000
-F.B. Rogers - River Lofts in Taunton, which received $120,000
-Loom Works Building in Worcester, which received $350,000
