A man is in a serious condition in hospital after part of a wedding chapel collapsed during demolition work in Cairns in north Queensland this afternoon.
The 61-year-old man was a member of a building crew working to pull down the chapel at a hotel on the Cairns Esplanade.
It is believed he was operating a crane to remove a part of the chapel's wall when he got out to check the load and it moved unexpectedly, trapping him and a co-worker.
Colleagues were able to free the men before firefighters arrived.
Paramedics had to resuscitate the crane operator.
He was rushed to hospital where he is now in a serious but stable condition.
His 63-year-old colleague is also in hospital with minor chest and shoulder injuries.
