Malmstrom Air Force Base housing built in the 1950s and '60s is set for demolition Oct. 30.
New housing will be built to replace the Washington Circle and Lincoln Housing complexes, which are just north of Malmstrom's main entrance.
Plans call for 198 homes, most in the style of townhouses. Site preparation began this month.
Other housing is available for military personnel to use during the construction period, said 2nd Lt. Justin Brockhoff of the base public affairs office. Brockhoff said he did not have a date for completion of the new housing.
Also planned is a new fitness center with an indoor track for running. Base officials expect construction of an indoor pool later.
"Right now we have a smaller facility with an outdoor track and pool," said Capt. Elizabeth Benn, a Malmstrom spokeswoman. "We like it, but it is small and needs to be updated and have additional space."
