I know. People always ask me if we shut down when it rains and I always answer 'We do our best work inthe rain."

Then there was the hot dry summer day I pulled half of a 250 foot surge tank and sent a dust cloud over the adjacent neighborhood where everyone had just finished their Saturday moring car washes. You win some...;)

Somebody certainly picked the right day. An implosion of a 30 story building on the same day it rains 5+ inches and then is followed up by a couple more days of 25-30 mph winds ???

Somebody's obviously doing something right. ;)

Here is a link to multiple view videos.

The one from the public safety building is a nice looking video.

That one had to rank pretty high up there in the "pucker factor"

Come rain or shine, the Landmark Tower at the corner of Seventh and Houston streets will be imploded tomorrow morning.

And Fort Worth police is expecting about 10,000 spectators to show up to see the spectacle.

The 30-story skyscraper is scheduled to come down at approximately 8 a.m. The city will be closing off a 15-block safety perimeter beginning at 5 a.m. Saturday.

We will have video as soon as it becomes available.

James,
That explains that. They have a 30 ft deep basement and are augmenting that with a 20 foot excavation adjacent to the building in which to catch the debris.

An implosion is only limited by the area which can be used as a debris receptacle. I did a couple of takeoffs on this building but for the life of me, I can't remember how deep the basement is. The deeper the basement, of course, the more debris it can hold. Demolition debris ususally has an angle of repose of 2:1 but because of the steel construction this can vary a bit.
The Landmark Tower was the first highrise constructed in the US with an aluminum curtain wall. With aluminum scrap selling for .73/lb., somebody is loving life. :)
