An advocacy group is trying to halt the demolition of the two Hurley smokestacks.
The Gila Resources Information Project has asked a state district judge for a temporary restraining order. The group contends the demolition will threaten the health of Hurley residents, especially those with respiratory problems.
And the group alleges the demolition, slated for May 25th, threatens the safety of the residents' property. Phelps Dodge is demolishing the smokestacks because they are no longer needed.
